recommended procedure for backup UAgateway

Post by pineland »

Hi,

what is the best way to backup a uagateway configuration? Is it just to make a copy of the UaGateway folder?

Hi,

there is no easy way to backup "all" the configuration, there are multiple files and folders in different locations, including databases (tagfile and taglinker), the certificate store, the license and the configuration of underlying servers.

Good News: the new version 1.6.0 now has an option to "preserve" the previous configuration when installing an update over the previous version.

Hi,

the Tagfile consist of 2 folders (for importing from CSV or from xml) AND the tagfile.db database, all located in the /ProgramData/uagateway/ directory.

NOTE: Whatever you do for backup, be aware this is "internal" path and that file and folder location may change from mainline to mainline, hence your own selfmade "backup strategy" might not work anymore after update.

Currently there is no "backup/playback" feature for complete configuration of UaGateway, but the UaGateway can (starting from 1.6.0) preserve the existing configuration when being "Updated" to newer version. However, that is handled by setup procedure. Since 1.6.0 the UaGateway config is located in /ProgramData/

NOTE: if the backup contains own certificates and trust stores, the playback of "old" backup may use "expired" certificates, which will cause complete still stand of the communication.
